The outgoing message of an answering machine can be blocked when any phone in the house is picked up. Connect the answering machine to the side of the jack with the green light, and a phone to the side with the red light. Protect a fax machine or private phone from being interrupted when in use. Connect the fax machine or telephone that requires protection to the side of the jack with the red light. Plug other device into the side with the green light.
